MEV Protection Explained
Here's something the DEX UIs don't tell you: every time you swap on Uniswap, 1inch, or MetaMask, your transaction goes into the public mempool. Bots watch that mempool. They see your trade before it executes. And they extract value from it. This is called MEV, and it's costing you 1-3% on every swap. Let me explain what it is and how Orkid eliminates it.
What is MEV?
MEV stands for Maximal Extractable Value. It's the profit that bots extract by reordering, inserting, or censoring transactions in a block. In plain English: bots see your pending trades and manipulate the order of transactions to profit at your expense.
MEV is not a bug. It's a feature of public blockchains. Every transaction you broadcast to the mempool is visible to everyone. Bots pay miners/validators to reorder transactions in ways that extract value from you.
The three types of MEV that hurt you

Front-running
A bot sees your large buy order in the mempool. They buy before you, pushing the price up. Your order executes at a worse price. They sell after. Pure profit for them, pure loss for you.

Sandwich attacks
The most common and damaging. Bot sees your swap → buys before you (price goes up) → your swap executes at the inflated price → bot sells immediately after (price goes back down). You got sandwiched. The bot pocketed the difference.

Back-running / arbitrage
Less harmful to you directly, but still extraction. Bots arbitrage price differences your trade creates. This is actually how Orkid's solver makes money — but we do it on our side, not at your expense.
How Orkid eliminates MEV
The solution is simple: don't use the public mempool. Here's what Orkid does instead:

You sign a gasless message describing what you want to swap. This message goes directly to Orkid's solver — NOT to the public mempool.

The solver finds the route
The solver searches all 11 venues (Uniswap V2/V3/V4, PancakeSwap, Aerodrome, SushiSwap, Curve, Balancer, LunarBase, plus RFQ from Bebop, Wintermute, Liquorice) for the best price. This happens off-chain.

The solver submits privately
The solver submits the final transaction directly to the block builder — not the public mempool. MEV bots never see it. Your swap executes at the price you were quoted.

Does Orkid guarantee no MEV?

Can I check if I was MEV'd?
